Ya, ya, ya, this may be a little overly dramatic – and I’m sure my friends in California are Rolling on the floor laughing….
But that was the day it happened – there I was with Rebecca at the Cira Center having lunch and I honestly thought the rumbling was either my stomach’s anticipation of what was about to happen or a train running under us on the way to 30th Street Station…
What was the rumbling and excitement that overshadowed earthquake?
We were invited to have lunch with Beth Koenig of Garces Catering at JG Domestic – as most of you know from previous blogs, I am a Food Network junky… so lunch at one of Iron Chef Jose Garces’ restaurants ROCKS!
While we talked about the venue, off premise catering and enjoyed the earthquake (we realized it was an earthquake when our server’s mom called and we saw the office buildings emptying out) we snacked on Hickory Smoked Georgia Pecans with Maple and Bacon (TRULY AMAZING) and Iowa Organic Popcorn with Cheddar and Horseradish… I could have made a meal of these.
Rebecca enjoyed the Soft Shell Crab BTL with Avocado on Brioche with the Duck Fat French Fries (you will NEVER want regular fries again!) and I had the Sweet Corn Tagliatella with heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil and sugar snap peas….
I’m a BIG fan of local seasonal ingredients, not only for cooking at home and dining out but also when building menus for weddings…
Chef Garces will be growing many of the fruits and vegetables used in his restaurants at on farm in Upper Bucks county (right near where my restaurant was and a favorite place of mine)…
JG Domestic makes a great space for rehearsal dinners as well as wonderful location for boutique weddings – ceremonies can be hosted in the atrium and dinner and dancing in the restaurant…
The Garces Group also offers amazing catering at off premise venues across the city (featuring items from some of the restaurants), has spaces for rehearsal dinners at many of their restaurants and one of my favorites “Guapos Tacos”….the perfect way to end an event – Tacos from Jose Garces
