Today started bridal show season for 2008…
Â
Â
I was a featured speaker at The Bridal Event at The Chase Center in Wilmington which had a great turnout…
Â
Â
I really enjoyed the show not only because of the venue, the wedding professionals and the turnout of brides but because of some ladies I met from Formal Dress Project.
Â
Formal Dress Project collects bridesmaids dresses, and formal gowns, has them cleaned and pressed and distributes them to local teenagers in need. Young women will have the opportunity to shop for a prom dress free of charge.
Â
Â
Based in Wilmington, Delaware they work through The Foster Care Association, YWCA, Rosehill Community Center and Big Brothers Big Sisters to ensure that their services reach those who need it most.
Â
Â
No questions will be asked of any teenager
Â
I’m sure there are dozens of readers who have been bridesmaids, have bridesmaids in their wedding party who have dresses hanging in their closets or even a gently worn gown from a formal event.
Â
I know as a wedding consultant that many of the bridal salons I’ve dealt with have ‘leftover’, “last season†bridesmaids’ dresses packed away in storage…
Â
They are also in need of shoes, and jewelry.
