As a small kid I can remember my brother and I ‘helping’ the switchboard operators and the snack bar concession at Holy Redeemer Hospital…

We spent long hours there while my mom got tattooed for radiation treatments, lost her hair and drank lime juice to help keep her from getting sick from chemotherapy…

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was about 8… back in a time where there was very little treatment…and the little bit there was, was really hard to tolerate…

Mom outlived all the diagnosis they had for her by a long shot… I really think my mom had the will to live until the point my brother, sister and I were grown and out on our own…

Twenty years ago, we all sat and waited, I had flown in from Texas -  we all sat days on end as mom slowly slipped away… funny thing is she waited until we had all left the room for probably the first time in a week…and she passed on quietly..

Working in an industry where most of my close colleagues, my clients and their moms are women, having been directly affected by a woman living with breast cancer – founding Let Them Eat Cake for City of Hopes’ Cancer Center was a natural.

Philadelphia’s largest wedding industry fundraiser is now in its third year… we’ve had dozens of pastry artists compete, students and professionals alike…

I’m thankful for the support of all of my industry partners who have donated, participated, and attended the event which now honors my mothers’ memory…

This year on April 17th, 2007 – pastry artists, other industry professionals, brides- to be, family and friends will again gather to compete, win prizes, have fun, and join forces to raise awareness and much needed funding for cancer treatment and research.

I hope you can join us for an amazing evening…
